(Florence, Arizona) The Town of Florence, Arizona USA has signed a contract with Milandr, Inc. of Denver, Colorado USA to build and operate a carrier-grade, commercial Smart City/Internet of Things (IoT) Network using the globally-adopted open standard LoRaWAN technology. The communications network is planned to deploy this month and will enable the Town of Florence to implement a variety of Smart City/IoT sensors and applications throughout the town and Central Pinal County.
The communications network will be rolled out using Tektelic’s KONA Mega IoT Gateways, and will be suitable to support the Town’s water metering needs as well as SCADA, emergency services, and the Town’s departmental applications. Florence residents and businesses will also have access to a multitude of Smart City/IoT sensors and devices.
“This collaboration is foundational to building our ‘smart city’ framework, and is a dramatic enhancement to the ‘smart city’ of the past.Instead of relying on proprietary software and hardware, we are building an open source network that will allow an infinite number of possibilities to enhance smart city networks to a new level. This will provide Florence with the ability to make data-based decisions quicker, and more reliably, and better prepare us to respond to emergencies. We expect this example to be replicated throughout the state, country, and world,” said Brent Billingsley, Town Manager of the Town of Florence.
